Wendy McKenzie has vision.? Over the last decade she has lent her expertise to music videos and hit movies, casting newcomers who make a big impression.

She got her start as a mentee of notable casting director Tracey Moore Marable, where she was able to work with her on the film 1995?New Jersey Drive?later, working with?renown?casting director Tracy ?Twinkie? Byrd (Sparkle, Jumping the Broom) where she made the discovery of Jamal Woolard who played Christopher Wallace (The Notorious B.I.G) in the biopic Notorious.

Wendy has a knack for newcomers who will make an impact. She went on to introduce Quinton Aaron who dominated the Oscar-nominated film The Blindside, starring Sandra Bullock who won the Academy Award for the same film.

When not working on big Hollywood movies, her company In The Wink of An Eye Casting hosts workshops for rising actors. At a recent workshop in New York City with partner and mentor Tracy ?Twinkie? Byrd she shared with the audience that she was working on a book with her son Scott, entitled The Fortune of Misfortune, described as ?a self-improvement / Motivation / Quote book on the benefits of failure, and how to turn your pain into gain?. Wendy gave MommyNoire some insight on what that experience is like:

What inspired your book The Fortune of Misfortune?

We go through?a lot?in life and I believe there?s a lesson in everything, good or bad.?My?son said our?story?is valid and people can learn from our?experiences and choices, mistakes and all.

What motivated you to collaborate with your son on this particular business?

It was all his idea. We had done a?speaking event and a young girl was so impressed?with our journey.? He looked?to me and said??We should tell our story.?

What is the biggest lesson you taught him on this journey of being an author?

Inspire before you expire.

You said you two are on a speaking tour, what kind of advice can you give to other parents when it comes to working closely with your children?

QNX unveils concept Bentley Continental GT alongside Car Platform 2.0

RIM's subsidiary QNX has a serious thing for cars. Today, the company announced the QNX Car Platform 2.0 and an associated development platform, which is now available to auto manufacturers. Later this year, the group will also release an HTML5 SDK, which will provide specialized APIs for accessing various hardware components within a vehicle. To show off the platform, QNX partnered with Bentley to produce a concept Continental GT, which the duo unveiled today at CES. It's said to boast smartphone integration, voice recognition and video conferencing -- scary to think about that last one. There are certain things at CES we just won't miss. Samsung's press conference. Sony. Panasonic. And then there's Intel. We attend the company's keynote every year, and we intend to continue that tradition in 2013. Intel, of course, is being coy about what's in store, only saying it has news to share around phones, tablets and laptops. (Guess there won't be a "virtual cable TV service," then?) What we do know is that Kirk Skaugen, VP and general manager of the PC client group, will be speaking, so we expect to hear lots about Ultrabooks, especially those of the touchscreen variety. In particular, we're hoping to hear a little more about those rumored Y-series chips, whose lower-power design should be an ideal fit for all those laptop / tablet hybrids we've been testing. Automakers in China brace for year of tepid growth as Japanese struggle

BEIJING/SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Automakers in China are bracing for another year of tepid single-digit growth in 2013, weighed down by sluggish demand for Japanese cars amid a diplomatic row between the two regional neighbors and government measures intended to restrict traffic in bigger cities.

Executives at local and foreign carmakers in China predict the overall vehicle market will grow 5 to 10 percent this year, roughly in line with 2012, when demand was hit by a slowing economy and rising fuel costs.

Japanese carmakers will likely continue to struggle in 2013 after they saw their China sales plunge by about half in 2012 after anti-Japanese protests and boycotts of Japanese goods broke out in mid-September over a territorial dispute between the two governments.

"Japanese brands have been handicapped by the turmoil in the relationship between Japan and China. It's very difficult for one company to see how much this is going to damage the long-term prospects of Japanese companies," Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of Nissan Motor Co , told reporters in a year-end briefing in Tokyo.

"What we know today is we are still down to last year. Obviously, the impact is reducing, (but) it's still significant...Will it go ever to zero? I don't know," he said, adding he forecasts the overall China market to grow at a similar pace to 2012.

Half of a dozen senior industry executives in China expect the vehicle market grow at a single-digit pace this year, according to a recent poll conducted by an industry portal, gasgoo.com. The other half predict the market to grow by around 10 percent.

John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor's China operations, has forecast 5 to 10 percent in the overall market, while Bob Socia, head of General Motors Co's China division, has said it was likely to grow by 5 to 8 percent.

During the first 11 months of 2012, overall vehicle sales rose 4 percent compared with the same period a year earlier. December has traditionally been a strong month for sales so analysts predict growth for the whole of 2012 will likely be around 5 to 6 percent.

The market grew 46 percent in 2009 and 32 percent in 2010, thanks mainly to government incentives that expired at the end of 2010. Growth fell to just 2.5 percent in 2011.

Adding to sluggish the performance of the Japanese manufacturers, further initiatives by local governments to restrict car sales to help ease the worsening traffic gridlock is likely to weigh on the overall market.

So far Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Guiyang in southwestern China have cut the number of license plates they issue. In Guangzhou, the measure, which was introduced in August, will cut annual vehicle sales by a third.

"Even a small city like Guiyang did it, so I won't be surprised if other cities follow suit sooner or later," said John Zeng, Asia Pacific director for industry consultancy, LMC Automotive.

Despite some headwinds, Zeng forecast passenger car sales to grow 10.2 percent in 2013, up slightly from around 7 percent as of end-November 2012. He says if it were not for the struggles of the Japanese makers, the market could grow as much as 13 percent.

Optimists argue that in addition to a recovering economy and pent-up auto demand in inland cities, China's new top leadership could introduce stimulus measures to spur domestic consumption that would help boost auto demand.

"There are reasons for such optimism. Whatever the market ends up with this year, I do expect an improvement of 3 to 5 percent above that," said Bill Russo, a senior adviser at Booz & Co.

National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace Opportunity ...

The National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) National Program Office (NPO) recently funded three pilots that will be testing privacy-enhancing cryptography in different use cases and settings as well as two pilots that use alternative non-cryptographic based privacy features. In addition, the NPO has been involved in the development of a project to pilot a Federal Cloud Credential Exchange (FCCX) which also will leverage privacy-enhancing cryptography. A key unmet need is an independent and objective assessment of these pilots that compares and contrasts the usability and privacy performance of the different approaches taken in each pilot, as well as the successes and difficulties each pilot faced in its tests in the marketplace.

The NIST Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is offering small businesses the opportunity to apply for a contract to perform this assessment of the NSTIC pilots and of the FCCX.? The goals of this activity are to:

1. Perform an independent analysis and comparison of each of the pilots, looking at the usability and privacy performance of the different approaches taken in each pilot;
2. Perform an independent analysis and comparison of each of the pilots, looking at the successes and difficulties each pilot faced in its tests in the marketplace;
3. Design and, if feasible, conduct usability and performance tests for privacy technologies and features for selected pilots;
4. Perform a gap analysis of existing standards and research, in order to help identify requirements for identity management efforts (e.g., standards and research work in security, interoperability, usability, etc.).

This assessment will help maximize the lessons learned by the pilots on usable security and privacy in the Identity Ecosystem and provide valuable data to the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG) as it engages in developing the Identity Ecosystem Framework, including components related to usability.? Additionally, the assessment can help guide the NSTIC NPO in evaluating the usability of project proposals for potential additional pilot grant funding in 2013.

We've all heard the viral pop song "Gangnam Style," a song written about the flashy, ostentatious lifestyle of Gangnam, a wealthy neighborhood in Seoul, South Korea. It's maybe no surprise then that its singer, Psy, is living "Gangnam Style" himself -- having just snapped up a superbly swanky condo in Los Angeles.

The world-famous pop star and his wife, Hye-yeon Yoo, reportedly purchased the condo in the exclusive Blair House on Wilshire Boulevard (pictured at left) for $1.249 million -- in cash. The two-bedroom luxury condo features city views, high ceilings and access to a saltwater swimming pool and tennis court.

The property sprawls over 2,776 square feet and boasts massive windows and contemporary fixtures. According to TMZ, the star plans to completely remodel the condo. Zillow states that the pop singer recently signed a record deal with Scooter Braun -- who also manages Justin Bieber -- and the purchase of this property only solidifies his "transition" to America.

Instability in the composition of gut bacterial communities (dysbiosis) has been linked to common human intestinal disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer; however, it is unclear if dysbiosis can instigate disease or if it is a consequence of the underlying disorder. In this issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation, researchers led by Mathias Chamaillard at the University Lille Nord de France in Lille, France, examined intestinal inflammation and tumorigenesis in a mouse model of dysbiosis. Dysbiosis enhanced intestinal inflammation and increased the risk for inflammation-associated colon cancer. Treatment with antibiotics or transplantation of fecal material from normal mice reduced disease risk and instigated long-term, beneficial alterations in intestinal bacteria. Conversely, transplantation of normal mice with dysbiotic fecal material increased intestinal inflammation and enhanced the risk of inflammation-associated colon cancer. These results demonstrate that gut bacterial communities play an integral role in protecting against intestinal inflammation and associated tumorigenesis.
